My Experience with MS Word:
I have personally spent a great deal of time working with MS Word and have found that it is my go to resource for any kind of writing based need or assignment. I have used MS Word at least once a day ever since I started my college career at TCC and continued to have used it consistently in my time at FSU. For me, while MS Word has a lot of customization options, it is simple to understand and use and has consistently worked well for me. I have used MS Word since Middle school and am still using it in my Junior year of College.
The ISTE Standards for Educators:
It was interesting to learn about the ISTE Standards for Educators and what they all meant. Personally I feel the most meaningful standard is that of the Leader. For me I have always done best in a class when an instructor is willing to work with their students to find what best works for them in regards to how they learn. It is, if I ever teach, how I want to work in a classroom of my own, so that my students can feel as if they are learning at an equal rate to one another.
Digital Native: Agree or Disagree?
Personally I do not agree with the labeling of today's youth as digital natives. Calling someone a digital native carries on the assumption that this person can do all sorts of things involving technology due to them being born in a time when technology is a huge factor of our daily lives. While I could be classified as a digital native, I don't know as many things about the technology around me as the digital immigrants, as they have had to adapt into working with technology, we still have to learn how to use tech. I use most of my technologies for recreational use and for submitting school work for college, while my teachers who are digital immigrants use them for setting up our assignments, researching, etc. much more than what I use it for.
Badges:
My thoughts on the badges are they seem interesting? I have never earned them before in any degree. While I don't think anything positive or negative about them, I don't see how they can hurt. However it feels like something you would do to get more excuse tokens rather than for the developing of knowledge.
I agree with your take on the badges. They can be helpful in the right circumstances, but most circumstances that we would do them in aren't good ones. Badges could, however, end up offering more specific details on ideas we start expanding on briefly in class.
