Portfolio Item 27: New PLN Tool

https://groupme.com/en-US/  Group me is a group text/messaging system that allows students to collaborate and socialize when they wish to and as a teacher I am able to send/post things specific to the course as well as extra things that may be for extracurricular use.

EME Experience     For my EME class I was in person for class and was present all but one day, due to being sick with COVID symptoms (thankfully it wasn't COVID), so far. I liked that for my classroom experience I was able to understand the teacher and what they intended and if I ever had a question they were quick to answer. I don't think there was anything I disliked really, there may have been a few things I was confused about here and there but the teacher was always willing to answer any questions I had. I guess if I had to pick something to dislike it is only really a personal thing, that being the Final project being a group project and in such a way that if someone screws it up for the rest of the group they all could fail, that's probably my only real problem I had/have, but even then it kind of makes sense due to the volume of work needed to be done. OER     Open Educational Resources include things such as textbooks, school/course websites, thin...

(Note: All of this is of my opinion on the sites, if I am missing the bigger picture I am sorry) Web Design Assignment:     So unfortunately for me I could not complete the Web Design Assignment. On the day after it was due when I saw I could use a token to turn it in late I was like "Great! I can focus on something else I am behind on for today and do this tomorrow!" Cut to tomorrow and I go to use the token and see I can only submit the assignment ONE day late. So at that point doing the assignment was pointless to do since I could no longer turn it in. Something I did not like about the assignment is that I don't see how it pertains to teaching. I don't see the need to create a website of my own when the students are already having to deal with ten others (if they are college students) so for me it felt kind of pointless. Diigo:     I don't really think I have gained any skills from Diigo. It feels like another tool that we CAN use but not necessarily...

School Website:     Personally, I have never had a need to go to a school website, at the very least the home site. The only case for this has been for FSU and instead of going to their home page I have had to Google search for more specific sites for more specific topics or circumstances. This kind of makes their home page semi obsolete in the case of trying to find specific information. For example, if you are looking for where to apply for the school itself you just Google "FSU application" instead of actually going to the homepage. https://www.fsu.edu/ Myself with Technology in Teaching:     Most likely I would just use simple things like Word, Power point, and MAYBE Excel, and of course whatever class/course site is provided/required. I don't really see much of a point or need for some of the things we have gone over, this is my opinion I might be missing something big IDK. For example I don't see the point in creating my own website for a course or using ...

Diigo Thoughts:     My initial experience I guess was just like everyone else's experience? I didn't really think much of it besides you know needing to use it to complete the portfolio options. I think in a person's hands who is more competent in online navigation, because I am not good at it, this would be a great tool. Apart from that it seems like a useful tool for people who understand how to use it. Blog Experience:     Blogging has been an ok way to get some of my thoughts out. I don't dislike it however don't really see how it would help in a teaching setting? Same thing with Twitter and some of the other things we have gone over. This is probably because I haven't seen the bigger picture or something. However these are just my thoughts on it, I am not writing these things off or anything. Web 2.0:     I don't really know of any tools I would use in teaching? As stated above I can't really connect the dots here really well as to the connection...

Experience Using Twitter:     Personally, I have never liked Twitter, and I have never had the desire to use it. My first and only personal experience on Twitter has been this class as it is a required part of it. I fully intend on deleting my account after the fact. I do not find Twitter beneficial whatsoever and I don't see how it will help me in my future career, I was ok with trying it for this class, but I just don't see the point in it. The Digital Divide:     The digital divide definitely effects those who don't have access to the proper technology more than those who have it, if they are affected at all, as they cannot access certain key resources or even assignments. If students right now at FSU don't have access to a computer or phone to reach CANVAS then they can't even access their assignments. In regards to classroom experience as an educator, I will most likely encounter students of a lower income household who wont have access to technology....
